The highly anticipated Desolat FABRIC takeover took place this Saturday and it was one night that I will not forget.
HECTOR kicked off the bill in Room 1 with a 4 hour set full of funk, get up and go, dropping all sorts of bangers including Traumer – Hoodlum (respectfully acknowledging the latest addition to the DESOLAT crew) and Paranoid London – Paris1 which was very well received by the crowd. His four hour set flew by; the suave Mexican gave it his all, sealing it as my favourite set of his to date.
Towards the end of his set Hector switched it up with a Latino edge and more mellow vibe which was inevitably leading to one thing… enter GUTI. I had a quick chat with him before his set (and what a down to earth and genuine guy he is!) and spoke briefly about the release of his album Rompecorazones before he had to rush off to take over the decks with his 1 hour 15 minute set. As always it was a beautiful, majestic experience with his usual South American vibe that captivated the crowd – dropping his collaboration with Mark Fanciulli ‘The Light’ was a real highlight!
Guti’s set was not long enough, however it was the perfect build up for Mr. Desolat himself. Room 1 was soon packed as LOCO DICE took to the decks and his unique sound was soon playing out of the world famous Fabric sound system. It seemed that the vibe in the booth was as ecstatic as the dance floor as Loco dropped tracks like Fabio Neural – Mein Freund and Roman Fluegel – More & More & More (Ian Pooley’s New Dub). The Desolat boys clearly enjoyed the night as much as the packed out crowd that came to seem them as they finished up a little after 10am with Guti missing his flight!
It’s fair to say Fabirc isn’t just about Room 1 – Rooms 2 and 3 also hosted big names Terry Francis, Richy Ahmed and Kink who provided some deep techy sets that came in handy when needing a break from the hustle and bustle of Room 1.
All in all, a very good night full of glorious, disgustingly dirty music. What more could a house head want?! If you ever see a promo for a Desolat night at Fabric, don’t think about it – cancel your plans and buy a ticket. You won’t regret it.
